Descendants of John and Eave Jackson

John and Eave Jackson with their unmarried children were in Walker Co., Ga. by 1840, located at Chickamauga, near the home of John Rickman Holland. Henry Lyda Jackson had married Nancy Ann Holland in 1835, thus the beginnings of the Jackson-Holland ties. John Jackson owned two farms; one of them known today as "Trails End",  a registered hereford cattle farm. That was the old homestead though the house has been replaced by a colonial brick. John Jackson died shortly before 1850 after hauling a load of fresh meat to LaFayette and selling it for four cents a pond, we are told, and the son, Henry Lyda, settled the family by selling the farm to the Scott Family, some of whom have remained at Chickamauga to this generation, (This book published 1959). A small portion of this land was released to the US Government in 1893 by the Scott heirs ro be included in the National Park, commemorating the "Battle of Chickamauga, September 19-20, 1863. Henry's father John died in Walker co., Ga., the Georgia Jackson's maintained that Henry was the oldest son of John and Eave Still Jackson, he settled the estate by selling everything, then "He took all the money and lit a rag for Texas and we never saw him again." Land sales were recorded in Summerville, Georgia, deed books dated 1852. Ann's father, John Rickman Holland was at Fort Gates, Coryell Co., Texas. Henry and Ann arrived at Fort Gates to visit relatives and seek a location.

There was once a Jackson Family Cemetery above the bank of the Chickamauga Creek, remembered especially for the profusion of two-toned pink roses, but a
former owner had the grave stones and roses removed in order to plant the land in wheat. John and Eave were buried in the family cemetery.

The fact that so many Jacksons were in North Carolina in early 1800, that our family moved frequently, and that the Walker County, Ga. court house burned
in 1863 and in 1893, has made this family search particularly tedious, but we expect, in a reasonable time to identify our revolutionary ancestor and the
early background of our Jacksons. For that reason we list John Jackson as generation 2, John and Eave were both born in North Carolina.

The home of Henry Lyda Jackson and Nancy Holland stood directly on the state line where Chattooga County, Georgia, touches Cherokee County, Alabama. Henry
Lyda is said to have performed wedding ceremonies for runaway couples who crossed a state line by entering either the east or the west rooms of the
Jackson home. Parental consent was not necessary if a state line was crossed for a wedding. Henry Lyda was an early day postmaster at Alpine Georgia.
