I Martha Hopkins of the county of Harris and the state aforesaid being in a feeble state of health but of sound and disposing mind and memory and taking in to view the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life do make and ordain this my last will. Item the 1st: After my burial expenses and debts if there be any, are paid the balance of my money and property I desire distributing in the following manner to wit: I leave to my daughter Caroline Wheeler three negroes Sisor(?), Dolly, and Arney(?) during her natural lifetime and three feather beds and furniture. Which time said negroes are to be under the care of my two sons John A. and William Hopkins. Also half of the lots of land in Randolph County No.254, two hundred and fifty four in the tenth district and No.14 fourteen in the nineteenth district originally Lee but now Randolph County also five hundred dollars to purchase her a negro girl all of which and the increase if any is to belong to her children at her death. Item the 2nd: Desire the balance of my estate equally divided among my children their names being to wit; Elizabeth Heard, John A.Hopkins, William Hopkins, Bedford Hopkins, John B. Heard and Mary Heard and Frances Linch. Item the 3rd: I appoint my beloved sons John A. and William Hopkins my executers in witness where of I here unto set my hand and afix my seal this the 13th day of May 1840. Martha Hopkins Test: Henry W. Spears Archibald C.Spears John W. Easters Georgia Harris Co. Personally appears in open court Henry W.Spears and after being duly sworn sayeth on oath that he was present at the signing of the within will and that he subscribed the same as a witness and that he saw Archibald C. Spears and John W.Easters sign the same or witness to the within will and that she was of sound disposing mind and we sworn to and subscribe this 6th day of Nov.1843 Henry W.Spears William Johnson C.C.O. Page 72 Martha Hopkins will continued July 16,1843 Deed of gifts by Martha Hopkins to Bedford Hopkins and his children after his death and under the control of his brother William Hopkins or his representatives that is to say one eight part of my estate which might include his part in my will. This is to certify that this is to include all other claims that he may have against my estate by will or otherwise but not effect my will in no other shape. Martha Hopkins Test Lewis Peters }Mary A.
