Tips on Using these maps
-
Note LARGE black 12th, 13th, 10th. These are
the Land Districts
-
Ignore medium black numerals like 8, 9, 10
-
The smaller squares are the LAND LOTS.
-
The THICK black line was drawn by Mr. Watkins
to indicate the area covered by his study
-
The MEDIUM black Line indicates the LAND DISTRICT
DIVISION, i.e. 10th, 12th, 13th
-
Note carefully that some Land Lots in ADJOINING
LAND DISTRICTS use the same number.
-
Land Lots numbering begins at one point, goes
one direction, then at the to/bottom of the land district, goes the opposite
direction.
Suppose you were interested in this
name: Anthony Dismukes
He appears on LIST of LAND
DISTRICT 10 as the owner in 1831 of a portion of Land Lot 12 in Land
District 10.
First locate the LARGE "10th". Then begin
looking for the square numbered 12.
You'll see it is the first lot within the
area of study and actually adjoins a land lot that is in Land District
13.
Note the Land Mark "Shoal Creek" and "Georgia
Highway".
Now scroll down to the Highway map, and
you'll see both these landmarks near the community of Round Oak
