J. M. Aaron of said State and
County, desiring to avail himself of the Pension Act (Section 1254, Code),
hereby submits his proofs, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to
the following questions, deposes and answers as follows:
1. What is your name and where do
you reside?
J. M. Aaron.
2. How long and since when have
you been a resident of this State?
All my life.
3. When and where were you born?
Oct. 22nd 1867. Franklin County, Georgia.
4. When and where and in what
Company and Regiment died you enlist or serve?
Enlisted 4th March
1862-Franklin County Ga.-Co. K 52nd Regiment Ga. Volunteers.
5. How long did you remain in such
company and regiment?
Something over three years.
6. For how long a period of time
did you discharge regular military duty?
3 years.
7. When, where and under what
circumstances were you discharged from service?
I was in prison at Columbus Ohio
[Camp Chase] at the time of the surrender April 1865.
8. What is your present
occupation?
I have no occupation at present.
9. How much can you earn (gross)
per annum by your own exertions or labor?
Very little 20 or 25.
10. What has been your occupation
since 1865?
Farming.
11. Upon which of the following
grounds do you base your application for pension, viz: first, “age and
poverty,” second, “infirmity and poverty,” or third, “blindness and poverty”?
Infirmity and poverty.
12. If upon the first ground state
how long you have been in such condition that you could not earn your
support? If upon the second, give a
full and complete history of the infirmity and its extent? If upon the third, state whether you are
totally blind and when and where you lost your sight?
I have for the last 3 years been
confined to my house & bed the most of the time with rheumatism in my legs
and arms.
13. What property, effects or
income do you possess, and its gross value?
I own no property.
14. What property, effects or
income did you possess in 1894, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898 and 1899, and what
disposition, if any, did you make of same?
I have not owned any property for
10 years except 1 cow and a few hogs worth $20.
15. In what County did you reside
during those years, and what property did you return for taxation?
I have been in Jackson County Ga.
94-95-96-97 and Banks County 98 & 99.
16. How were you supported during
the years 1898 and 1899?
My wife and children supported me
by their work on rented land.
17. How much did your support cost
for each of those years, and what portion did you contribute thereto by you own
labor or income?
I suppose $40.
18. What was your employment
during 1898 and 1899? What pay did you
receive in each year?
I had no employment in 98 &
99.
19. Have you a family? If so, who composes such family? Give their means of support?
Have they a homestead?
I have a wife and one girl who
have to work on rented land for a living.
20. Are you receiving any pension? If so, what amount, and for what disability?
None.

J. D. Starrett, of said State and
County, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of J.
M. Aaron for pension under Section 1254, Code, and after being duly sworn true
answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows:
1. What is your name and where do
you reside?
J. D. Starrett. Franklin County Georgia.
2. Are you acquainted with J. M.
Aaron the applicant: if so how long have you known him?
Yes, I know him 35 years.
3. Where does he reside and how
long and since when has he been a resident of the State?
Banks County Ga.
4. When, where and in what company
and regiment did he enlist, and how do you know?
Carnesville Ga. In 1862 March-Company K 52nd Regiment Ga.
Volunteers.
5. Were you a member of the same
company and regiment?
I was.
6. How long did he perform regular
military duty, and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier,
and the time and circumstances of his discharge from service?
3 years or more. Was a good soldier. Discharged at the close of the war at
Columbus Ohio in 1865. First witness close here. [This witness statement was
completed by two men. J. D. Starrett of
Franklin County answered Questions 1-6, which were signed with his mark and
sworn to by T. J. Crow, Ordinary of Franklin County, Ga., on the 19th
of January 1900. Questions 7-15 were
answered by E. A. Blaylock (Blalock) of
Banks County and sworn to by T. J. Hill, Banks County Ordinary, on the 22d of
January 1900.]
7. What property, effects or
income had the applicant? (Give your means of knowledge.)
He owns no property. I know because I reside near him and he
lives on my land.
8. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in
1896, 1897, 1898 and 1899, and what disposition, if any, did he make of same?
He owned none either of years
96-97-98-99.
9. Has he conveyed away any of his
property in the last four years; if so, what was it, and to whom?
He has not conveyed any property.
10. What is the applicant’s
occupation and physical condition?
He has no occupation. He is not able to labor because of
rheumatism in his legs, not able to walk part of the time.
11. Is the applicant unable to
support himself by labor of any sort, if so, why?
He is not able to support himself
by his labor.
12. How was he supported during
the years 1898 and 1899?
His wife and children furnished
his support by their work.
13. What portion of his support
for these two years was derived from his own labor or income?
He contributed very little if any.
14. Give a full and complete
statement of the applicant’s physical condition that entitles him to a pension
under Section 1254, Code?
He is confined to his bed the most
of the time with chronic rheumatism-not able to do anything.
15. What interest have you in the
recovery of a pension by this applicant?.
None.
