Confederate Pension Application of Harris Allan

State of Georgia

Banks County.

Personally appears Harris Allan of Banks County, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State, and has been continuously since the [blank] day of April 1825; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or of the State of ........ ) during the war between the States, and served as a Private in Company A , of 2nd Regiment of Georgia Volunteers Cumming’s Brigade [Banks County Guards]; that whilst engaged in such military service, at the battle of Winchester in the State of Virginia, on the [blank] day of June 1863, he was wounded as follows:

gunshot wound of right leg resulted in loss of portion of the bone and stiffness of ankle joint and wasting away of the muscles, from which he has never recovered.  Was discharged from service on account of said wound, and has not been able to do any work since.

Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the Act amendatory thereof, approved Dec. 24, 1888, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year ending Oct. 26, 1889

Personally comes before me T. F. Hill Ordinary of said county, V. D. Lockhart and Thomas Hayden, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who, being severally sworn, say on oath that they have carefully examined Harris Allen and after such examination say that the applicant has been injured as follows:

Gun shot wound of right leg.  Ball entered 2 inches above ankle joint on the inside passed upward and forwards and came out in front of leg, splintering the bone.  At the point of exit there is an old scar which is sore and breaks out and discharges pus at times.  The ankle joint is stiff and the whole leg wasted away.  Is unable to walk but a short distance with the assistance of a staff.  Is unable to do any work and leg substantially and essentially useless.

Handwritten Affidavit of Witness.

Georgia

Banks County.

Personally came before me William M. Ash of the county of Banks, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says that he was a Commissioned Officer in Company A of the 2nd Regiment of Ga. Volunteers and that deponent knows Harris Allan and that he received the wounds while in active service in my presence as stated in his foregoing affidavit and that the wounds permanently disables the said Harris Allan as stated by him in said affidavit.  Deponent further states that said Harris Allan is a bona fide citizen of said State.
