Confederate Widows’ Application of Espy P. Thurmond  Anthony

Affidavit to be Made by the Widow

State of Georgia

County of Banks.

 

In person before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for the County of Banks, Mrs. E. P. Anthony, who being duly sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of Martin C. Anthony, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company E 34th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the 5th day of March 1862, and was in the Western Army up to 10 Sept. 1862 (death).  That while in the Army, he was on the [blank] day of [blank], “He came home of sick furlough August 1st 1862 from Big Shanty Ga. And remained home until his death which occurred 10th Sept. 1862.”

 

Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 15th day of October 1850, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 27th day of June 1830; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23 day of December, 1890, and that since said date she has not lived in any other State or locality.  Deponent, as widow of deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approves December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said Act.

Jackson County Georgia Marriages-Martin C. Anthony and Permelia E. Thurmond married on 17 Oct. 1850.

E. P. Anthony born June 27 1830 and died April 8 1908

“Mrs. Anthony died yesterday morning about 2 o’clock” Banks County Journal, issue date Thursday, April 9 1903.

Either the year 1903 or 1908 is in error for Mrs. Anthony’s death date.
