For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally appears J. M. Ariail of Banks County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen resident of said State, and had resided therein continuously since the 27th day of April 1840; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served as a private in Company A, of 2nd Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, Benning’s Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service in the State of Pennsylvania, on the 2nd day of July 1863, he was wounded or diseased as follows:

Wounded in the left arm with piece of bombshell at the Battle of Gettysburg Pa. on the 2nd day of July 1863, which resulted in the total disability of said left arm from manual labor.

Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24th, 1887, and the acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year ending October 26th, 1898.  I have heretofore under said law as a resident of Jackson county been allowed an invalid pension of $50.00 Dollars, for the year 1897.

Ariail the applicant in the foregoing affidavit, and am well satisfied that the statements made by him in his affidavits are true, and that I know he is the individual he represents himself to be and that he resides in this County.

Notes- Census records indicate John M. Ariail was born in South Carolina, not Georgia.  the affidavit above.

Buried in the Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, Ga., his stone reads: J. M. Ariail, April 27, 1840-May 6, 1908.  Beside him lie Mrs. Narcissa Ariail, June 20 1834-Sept. 14 1929 and Billie [William Harrison] Ariail, 1867-1934.
