Confederate Pension Application of Augustus P. Bryan

 

For Use Of Applicants Who Have Not Heretofore Drawn.

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally appears Augustus P. Bryan of said Banks county, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he was born on the 1st day of December 1845, that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia, and has been continuously since the 1st day of  December 1845, that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or the State of Georgia) on the 15th day of November 1863, during the war between the States, and served in Company G of 1st Regiment of Georgia State Troops, and was honorably discharged on the 4th of May 1865, that whilst engaged in such military service “here below recited” [handwritten into sentence] and in line of duty in the State of South Carolina on the [blank] day of February 1865 he was disabled or wounded as follows:

Was attacked with Kidney Gravel, which has continued more of less all along since the attack.  For recent years it has grown so bad that I am unable to do any kind of labor, on account of this disability.  That I can find no relief from physicians who tell me the disease is incurable. 

After I served as stated from December 1st 863 to August 1864, I was transferred to the Cavalry, Company B 11th Georgia Regiment Cavalry, Hannons (?) Brigade, near Atlanta, Ga., and served in that Company until discharged at Augusta, Georgia, 4th day of May 1865.

At Augusta Ga.

Was applicant present?

Yes.

Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of Section 1250 of the Code, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th, 19_.

Physicians’ Affidavit.

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally comes before me T. F. Hill Ordinary of said County, Dr. V. D. Lockhart and Dr. J. S. Jolly, both known to me as reputable physicians of said County, who, being severally sworn, say on oath, that they have carefully examined Augustus P. Bryan and after such personal examination, say that the present condition of applicant is as follows:

Has Kidney Gravel.  Said attacks of Kidney Gravel are of chronic nature.  For many years has suffered so much that he is totally disabled for labor of any kind and that such condition is permanent.  Said condition arises from the following facts:

From Service in the army commencing during service.  Growing worse.  Has been treated by a number of Doctors but remains uncured and is incurable.

We have treated the applicant professionally for several years, and his condition, as above stated, does not arise from hereditary or congenital causes, or from vicious or intemperate habits.

I, T. F. Hill, Ordinary of said County, do certify that I am well acquainted with Augustus P. Bryan the applicant in the foregoing affidavit, and am well satisfied that the statements made by him in his said affidavit are true, that he is disabled, as he claims, and I know he is the individual he represents himself to be, and that he resides in this County and had been bona fide resident since the 1st day of December 1845.

I also certify that the witnesses, to-wit: V. D. Lockhart and J. S. Jolly are persons of respectability, and that their statements are worthy of full credit and benefit, and that the full text of the affidavit was read to and understood by them before they signed the same.

I, Augustus P. Bryan hereby authorize T. F. Hill of Homer Ga. to receive and receipt for the pension allowed and request that he remit the same to me by [blank] at Maysville Ga.

An Invalid Soldier’s Pension was awarded to A. P. Bryan of Banks County Ga., in the amount of $50.00 for his service in Company B 11th Georgia Regiment on October 25, 1915.
