Confederate Widow’s Pension Application of Fannie L. Johnson Banks

[aka Lucinda F. Johnson Banks]

 

Widow’s Affidavit.

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally before me comes Mrs. F. L. Banks of said County, who, after being duly sworn, says that she is the widow of Henry D. Banks to whom, in the County of Oglethorpe State of Georgia, she was married on the 13 day of June 1872, and that she remained his wife, and resided with him to the date of his death in Aug. 2nd 1917 and that she has not since remarried.  At the time of his death he was a resident of Banks County, in said State of Georgia, and that he was on the Indigent & Service Pension Roll of said State and paid a pension of $70.00 in Banks County for 1917 per annum, on account of being a soldier in Company (See your record) Volunteers of State Militia.

That she is now a bona fide resident citizen of said County of Banks and she has so continuously resided since 1849.

Affidavit of Witnesses to Prove Marriage and to Whom See Marriage Certificate [handwritten over strikeout]

Personally before me comes Dr. J. S. Jolly known to be a responsible and truthful persons, residing in said County, who after being duly sworn, says that of his own personal knowledge Mrs. F. L. Banks, who made the foregoing affidavit, is the lawful widow of H. D. Banks, died in Banks County in said State of Georgia on 2 August 1917, and that she has not since remarried and that she and he had resided together as man and wife continuously since “knowing them in 1898" [handwritten] and that the H. D. Banks was the same man who was on the pension roll of said State Georgia from Banks County.....when he died.

License-“State of Georgia, Oglethorpe County.

To Any Judge, Justice of the Peace, or Minister of the Gospel.

You are hereby authorized to join Henry D. Banks and Miss Fannie L. Johnson in the Holy State of Matrimony according to the Constitution and Laws of this State and for so doing this shall be your License.  And you are hereby required to return this License to me with your Certificate hereon of the fact and date of the Marriage.

Given under my hand and seal this 12th day of June 1872.

I Certify that Henry D. Banks and Fannie L. Johnson were joined in Matrimony by me this 13th day of June 1872.

Bacon, Ordinary and Ex-Officio Clerk of the Court of Ordinary of said County, do hereby certify that I have compared the foregoing copy of Marriage License and Marriage Certificate of Henry D. Banks and Miss Fannie L. Johnson with the original record thereof, now remaining in this office, and the same is a correct transcript therefrom, and of the whole such original record.

Note-Fannie J. Banks, 10 Aug. 1850-15 Mar. 1930, is buried beside her husband in the McDonald Family Cemetery in Banks County Georgia.
