APPLICATION FOR SOLDIER’S PENSION UNDER ACT 1910,

Questions for Applicants to Answer

 

STATE OF GEORGIA

Banks County.

 

W. W. Boswell of said State and County, hereby applies for the pension provided by Act of 1910, to Confederate Soldiers, and submits his sworn statement, with his testimony to make out the same, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows, to wit:


1.         What is your name and where do you reside? (Give County and Post-Office) W. W. Boswell, Banks Co., near Maysville Ga.

2.         How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of this State?  All my life.  64 years.

3.         Did you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or the Organized Militia of this State from 1861 to 1865?  Yes, June 12th 1864.  State Troops.

4.         When and where, and in what Company and Regiment did you enlist?  (Give the arm and class of service.)  3/12/1864.  Banks Co., 16 Ga. Reg. Co. A. Cavalry

5.         How long did you remain with the actual Military Service with said Company and Regiment?  (Give date of discharge.)  from enlistment to Surrender.

6.         When and where was your Company and Regiment surrendered or discharged from the Service?  April 12th 1865 at Columbus Ga.

7.         Were you actually present with your Command when it was surrendered or discharged?  Yes.

8.         If you were not actually present, state specifically and clearly where you were.  I was there. Note-further subsections of #8 deal with not being with Command.  The answers are all X’s except the question regarding capture during the war and the answer is No.

9.         What property of every description was owned, in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife, and its cash value on the 4. Nov. 1908?  (Make a list by items and value.)  Household and kitchen furniture.  About $100.00

10.      What property of any kind have you or your wife disposed of and for what purpose since 4. Nov., 1908?  None.

11.      What property of any description of any kind, and of any value now owned and in the use, possession and  control of yourself and your wife and its cash value?  Household & kitchen furniture. About $100.00.

12.      What annual or monthly  income or earnings of yourself and wife and the source derived have you?  Only labor on the farm.  Cropper.

13.      Are you drawing a pension of any amount from the State or the United States?  No.

14.      Have you ever applied for the Georgia Pension and had it refused?  And for what cause was it not allowed?  No.

ORDINARY’S CERTIFICATE

STATE OF GEORGIA

Banks County.

 

I, Logan Perkins, Ordinary of said County, certify that I know the applicant W. W. Boswell for Pension is the person he represents himself to be and resides in said County, That I also know (blank) the witness swearing to the service and (blank) who are freeholders , that they are all residents of said County and were duly sworn by me before signing the foregoing affidavit that they are all truthful and trustworthy and their statements are entitled to full faith and credit.  That the Tax results of W. W. Boswell shows that himself and wife value for tax in 1908 $256.00 for 1909 $55.00 for 1910 $55.00.

QUESTIONS FOR WITNESS AS TO SERVICE

M. T. Davis of said State and County is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of W. W. Boswell for the pension provided by the Act of 1910 in said State, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows:


 

1.         What is your name and where do you reside?  M. T. Davis, Jackson County, near Maysville, Ga.

2.         How long and since when have you known W. W. Boswell the applicant?  Ever since March 1864.

3.         Where does he now reside and since when has he been a bonafide continuing resident in this State and how do you know?  In Banks Co., near Maysville, Ga. Ever since 1864 by living near him.

4.         When, where and in what Company and Regiment did W. W. Boswell enlist during war from 1861 to 1865? (give date and place.)  March 10.  Banks Co. Co. A 16 Ga. State Troops.

5.         How did you obtain your information of this Service?  I was there with him in person.

6.         How long within your own personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with this Company and Regiment? (give date.)  About 13 Months, 3/10/64 to Surrender.

7.         When and where was his Command surrendered or discharged (give date and place)  Apr. 12th Columbus Ga. 1865.

8.         Were you personally  present at the Surrender?   Yes.

9.         If not, where were you and how came you there?  I was there.

10.       Was the applicant personally present with his Command at surrender?  Yes.

11.      If not, where was he and how he came there?  He was there.

12.      When did he leave Command?  Never left.

13.      Not applicable.

14.      Not applicable.

15.      Was the applicant captured as a prisoner?  No.

June 12th 1864, surrendered Columbus Ga. April 12th 1865.  Witnesses M. T. Davis of Jackson County.  No Property.

 

According to the Widow’s Application for Pension Due a Deceased Soldier filed by Mrs. N. E. (Nancy) Boswell, William Washington Boswell died 29 Nov. 1917.  He is buried at Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, Georgia.  He was born 5 February 1849.
