Confederate Pension Application of David A. Carlan

 

For Use of Applicants Who Have Not Heretofore Drawn.

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally appears D. A. Carlan of said Banks County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he was born on the 21 day of Nov. 1845, that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia, and has been continuously since the 21 day of Nov. 1845, that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or of the State of Ga.) on the 1st day of March 1864, during the war between the States, and served in Company A of 11th Regiment of Ga. Cavalry Volunteers, Hannon’s Brigade, and was honorably discharged on the 5th day of May 1865; that whilst engaged in such military service, and in line of duty in the State of Ga., on the 5th day of July 1864 he was wounded as follows:

“He contracted Rheumatism while on duty near Savannah, Ga., by being exposed by being in water while on duty.  Also had or contracted Piles as a result of Dysentery caused from having to use bad water all of which resulted in rendering him unable to do any kind of labor to make a support for the last Twenty five or Thirty years and for the last ten years he has not been able to do but little or no labor.”

And by whose authority?  State fully:

Surrendered under Gen. T. B. M. Young [Gen. P. M. B. Young], Columbia S. C. on the 5th of May 1865.

Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of Section 1254 of the Code, and the Acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th, 1909.
