Personally came Mrs. Harriett Caudell who says on oath
that she is the widow of J. H. Caudell to whom, in the County of Banks State of
Georgia, she was married on the 27th day of Feb. 1851, and that she
remained his wife up to the 15th day of July 1906, at which time he died, and that she has not
since married. At the time of his death
he was a resident of Banks County, in the State of Georgia, and was on the
Invalid pension roll of the State of Georgia, having been allowed a pension of
$50.00 per annum on account of being a soldier in Company “D” 43rd
Regiment, Ga. Volunteers or State Georgia.
What afflictions have you and how does it affect
you? Heart trouble, shortness of
breath, chronic Cattarah of stomach, soreness in the breast or what my
physicians call emphysema. These
diseases render me unable to do any kind of work.
What have you been doing to earn a support since 1st
of January, 1900? Doing only a little
house work.
What property or effects had you on 1st
January, 1900? Nothing.
What have you acquired since, and what income have you
now? Nothing.
What disposition have you made of any property since
January 1st, 1900, and at what price and for what purpose? Nothing.
Deponent further states that she is now a resident of
Banks County and has continuously resided in the State of Georgia since the 27
day of March 1832.
She applies for the pension provided by Act of the
General Assembly, approved December 18, 1901.

AFFIDAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES.

Personally came J. H. Willis, W. M. Blackburn and John
Higgins known to me to be reputable and truthful person who says on oath that
from his personal knowledge Mrs. Harriett Caudell who made the foregoing
affidavit is the widow of J. H. Caudell who died in Banks County and State of
Georgia on the 15th day of July 1906; and that she has not since
married, that she became his wife on the 27th day of February 1851,
and said so remained up to the time of his death and that has resided in this
State continuously since the 27th day of March 1832.
What affliction does she suffer? Heart trouble, shortness of breath, Chronic
catarah of the stomach, sore breast or Emphysema.
What property or income had she on 1st
January, 1900? Nothing.
What has she in her possession or control now? Nothing.
How was she supported in 1900 and 1901? By her husband and who is now dead.
I have no personal interest in the pension asked for:

Personally came before me W. P. Harden, M. D. and J.
D. Rice M. D., both of whom are known to me to be reputable physicians, who say
on oath that they personally know Mrs. Harriett Caudell mentioned in the
foregoing affidavit, that she is permanently afflicted with (state disease and
how it prevents her earning a support) Dilation of heart-shortness of breath,
Chronic Catarrh of stomach, Chronic Emphysema,
The above diseases are permanent, which render her unable to earn a
support by any labor or calling.

Notes: Harriett Caudell again applied and received a
Widow’s pension in 1907. 1906 &
1907 are the only years included in her pension papers from the Georgia State
Archives. It is assumed Mrs. Caudell
continued to draw a Widow’s Pension until her death August 20, 1915 in Banks
County. Harriett Caudell, born March
27, 1832, is buried alongside her husband, James H. Caudell, in Damascus
Baptist Church cemetery in Banks County, Georgia.
