Confederate Widow’s Pension Application of
Elizabeth H. Ash Key
Affidavit to be Made by the Widow.
State of Georgia
County of Banks.
In person came before me, the
undersigned Ordinary in and for the County of Banks, Mrs. E. H. Key, who being
sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of P. C. Key
[Pierce Columbus Key], who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate
States, and served as a member of Company I, of the 4th Regiment of
Georgia Cavalry Volunteers [State Guards], that he enlisted in said service on
or about the [blank] day of [blank] 1864, and was in the [blank] Army up to
November 1864. That while in the Army,
he was on the [blank] day of November 1864, “He was killed at the Battle of
Griswoldville, Ga., sometime in November, 1864.”
Deponent further swears that she
was the wife of said deceased soldier during the term of service in the Army,
and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife of the
22nd day of November 1849, and that she has resided in Georgia
continuously since the 18th day of July 1830; that Georgia is her
home, and was such on the 23rd day of December, 1890, and since said
date she has not lived in any other State or locality. Deponent, as the widow of a deceased soldier
husband, applies for the pension provided by the Act of the General Assembly of
Georgia, approved December 23rd, 1890, for the pension year ending
February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to
receive the allowance granted by said Act.

Know all Men by these Presents,
That I, E. H. Key of Banks County, in such State, do hereby appoint T. F. Hill
of Homer Ga. my true and lawful attorney in fact, for me and in my name, to
receive and receipt for whatever amount of money I may be entitled to from the
State of Georgia as a widow of a Confederate Soldier, as stated in the
foregoing affidavit; hereby authorizing my said attorney to receipt in my name
for any Warrant that may be issued by the Governor, or for any sum of money
which may be coming to me for the reason aforesaid.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto
set my hand and seal, this 20th day of April 1891.

buried at Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Banks County, Georgia. Her stone reads, “Aged 69 years-Nov. 20
