CONFEDERATE WIDOW'S APPLICATION OF DIALPHA FORRESTER KIMBRELL- 1901

 

Note-Married to James Kimbrell on Feb. 26, 1854.  1901 Pension Application shows she died before being paid.

 

Questions for applicant:

 

What is your name and where do you reside? Dialpha Kimbrell, Banks County, Homer, Ga.

 

How long and since when have you been a resident of this State?  All my life.

 

When and where were you born? In 1829-Habersham County.

 

When and where was you husband born?  About 1830 in Habersham County, married in 1846.

 

When and where and in what Company and Regiment did your husband enlist or serve during the war between the States?  24 Aug., 1861, in Hall County, Company I or J., 24 Georgia Regiment.

 

How long did your husband serve in said Company and Regiment? 4 years.

 

When and where did your husband's Company and Regiment surrender and was discharged? 9th April 1865 at Appomatox C. H., Va.

 

Was your husband present at the time and place when his Company and Regiment surrendered?  He was not.

 

If not with his command at surrender, state clearly and specifically where he was, when he left command, for what cause, and by what authority?  He was lost at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa., June 1864 and has not been heard from since.

 

When and where did your husband die? .....since the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa., June 1864

 

Which of the following grounds do you base you application for Pension, viz: First-Age and Poverty; Second-Infirmity and Poverty, or Third-Blindness and Poverty?  Age and Poverty.

 

If upon the first ground, state how long you have been in such a condition that you cannot earn your support.  If upon the second, give a full and complete history of the infirmity and its extent.  If upon the third, state whether you are totally blind, and when and where you lost your sight.  She is old and feeble and not able to do any kind of work.

 

What has been your occupation since your husband's death? Working on farm some 6.....8 years. (????)

 

How much can you earn gross, by your own exertion or labor?  Nothing.

 

What property, real or personal, or income do you have or posess, and its gross value?  She owns no property whatsoever.

 

What property, real or personal, did you posess at death of husband or he left you, end of the year 1899-1900, and of what disposition, if any, by sale or gift, have you made of the same?  Nothing.

 

In what counties did you reside in 1899 and 1900, and what property did you return for taxation?  Banks Co., Ga.

 

How have you been supported since the death of husband, and especially for 1899 and 1900?  By her own labor and the help of her children.

 

How much did your support cost for each of those years, and how much did you contribute by your own labor and income?  ??? $40 or $50.

 

What was your employment during 1899 and 1900-how much did you receive for each year?  Nothing...not able to do anything.

 

Have you a family?  If so, who composes such family?  Give their means of support.  Have they any lands or property?  No family.

 

Have you ever made an application for pension before?  No.

 

How many applications have you made for Pension, and under what class?  None.

W. H. H. Poole states he has known Dialpha Kimbrell for forty years.

 

When and to whom was her husband married?  Dialpha Foyster.
