Confederate Widow’s Pension Application of Harriet F. Segers Lawrence

 

Application for Pension Due Deceased Soldier

(To Be Paid to His Widow or Dependent Children)

Under Act Approved October 9, 1891.

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County

Personally before me comes Mrs. H. F. Lawrence of said county, who after bing duly sworn, on oath says that she is the widow of J. A. Lawrence [Joseph A. Lawrence] who was duly enrolled as a Ind. & Serv. Pensioner from the county of Banks and was paid a Pension of One Hundred Dollars from Banks county for the year 1920, and that the said J. A. Lawrence died in Banks County on the 12 day of March 1921, and at the time of his death a pension of $125.00 was due him from Banks county and unpaid for 1921.  Applicant further swears that she married the said J. A. Lawrence on the 24 day of Nov. 1867 in Banks county and State of Ga., and resided with him from the date of marriage to his death as his lawful wife, and is now his dependent widow, and she asks the Pension so due and unpaid be paid to her.

Affidavit of Witness.

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County

Personally before me comes J. M. O’Dell, who says on oath that he knew J. A. Lawrence while in life and that he knows his wife Mrs. H. F. Lawrence the above applicant; that he knows that the said See Cert. Copy of License were in due form of law married in the County of ....in the State of ....on the ..... day of ......, 18_, and that they resided together as husband and wife from the date of marriage to the day of his death on the 12 day of March 1921, and I know that she is his dependent widow.

Widow’s Affidavit.

 

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally before me comes Mrs. H. F. Lawrence of said County who, after being duly sworn, says that she is the widow of J. A. Lawrence to whom, in the County of Banks State of Georgia she was married on the 24 day of Nov. 1867, and that she remained his wife, and resided with him to the date of his death in March 12 1921 and that she has not since his death remarried.  At the time of his death he was a resident of Banks County, in said State of Georgia, and he was on the Ind. & Serv. Pension Roll of the State and paid a pension of $100.00 in Banks County for 1921 per annum, on account of being a soldier in Company D Regiment 43 Ga.

That she is now a bona fide resident of said County of Banks and has so continuously resided since the ..... day of 1847.

I hereby authorize G. M. Chambers C. S. C. of said county, my lawful attorney to collect, and receipt for me in my name, for the Pension due me for 1921, through my deceased husbandm J. A. Lawrence, who was on ...... Pension Roll and paid from Banks County for 1920.

Note- The Pension Office reports Mrs. H. F. Lawrence’s death date as 5/27/1922.  The book, “Cemeteries and Deaths in Banks County Georgia” by Richard J. Chambers lists the following:

Gillsville Cemetery-Lawrence, Harriet F. Segers, 12 July 1847-29 May 1921.  This may be a transcription error as her death was given in the Georgia Death Index as 27 May 1922, place of death Hall County.
