Personally
appears before me McKinney A. Morris,
Banks county, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a
bona fide resident of said State, and has been since the 28th day of January 1829;
that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States Army of the
State of (blank) during the war between the States, and served as a Private in Company D, of 43 Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, Ledbetter's Brigade; that whilst engaged in such
military service, at the battle of New
Hope Church in the State of Georgia,
on the (blank) day of May 1864, he
was wounded as follows:
Slight wound of left knee joint Was captured by the Yankees on Sandtown road near Atlanta, 13th
of Aug. 1864. Carried to Camp Chase, O.
Staid (sic) until after close of war.
While in prison contracted pneumonia fever. Was sick for a long time.
Resulted in abscess of back.
This was opened several times after his return, discharging a great deal
of pus at different times; was confined to room for nearly a year after coming
home. It continued to raise and was
opened at different times. Finally
resulted in a tumor in the right loin which has remained swollen and tender,
and has prostrated his general health to that extent that he is unable to
perform manual labor. Plus had spells of sickness resulting from said tumor
and disease of kidneys, diarrhoea and
hemorrhoids after those spells 4 or 5 times a year. The last one came on during last Christmas and lasted 4 or 5
months. Was unable to be but of the
house and had to be turned in bed.
Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the
Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the Act amendatory thereof, approved
December 24, 1888, which makes application for the allowance to which he is
entitled for the year thereunder ending October 26, 1889.

NOTES-In "Applicants Heretofore Allowed
Pensions" (1891) McKinney A. Morris states his birth as "20th day of
January, 1830".
The 1889 Pension Papers includes a Commissioned Officer's
Affidavit signed by J. E. Roe, commissioned officer of Co. D 43rd Regt. of
Georgia Volunteers which supports McKinney's statements.
PHYSICIANS'
AFFIDAVIT (of death)
Personally
came before me V. D. Lockhart and W. V. Chandler both of whom are known to
me to be reputable physicians, who say on oath that they personally knew McKinney A. Morris mentioned in the
foregoing affidavit (Widow, Winnie A. Morris), that he died on the 11th day of March 1896, and that the cause of his death was as follows (state
disease, time of treatment etc):
He was suffering form a hernial tumor or protrusion in the
right side, the result of Abscess
contracted while in the service of the Army.
The protrusion was very large allowing the bowels to come through,
covered by the skin and facia only.
Right side above margin of hip bone.
He also has chronic disease of the Heart and was unable to perform
manual or other labor for several years before death.

Morris, 1830-March 11, 1896, his wife, Winnie Miles Morris, born 1840-no date,
and Ina Morris, March 8, 1903-March 12, 1903, are buried in the McKinney Morris
family cemetery in the Wilson's Wildlife Management Area in Banks County.
