Confederate Pension of John F. Pearson

 

For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions.

State of Georgia,

Banks County.

Personally appear J. F. Pearson of Banks County, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State, and has resided in said State continuously ever since the ...day of ....1851 (?); that he is 63 years old and by occupation a Farmer, that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or of the State of Georgia) during the war between the States, and served for the term of 6 months in Company I, of 8th Regiment of Ga. Volunteers; that his physical condition is as follows:

Infirmity and Poverty

that his property consists of the following items: 00 of the value of 00 Dollars.  I am now earning, by my labor 00 Dollars per month.  That by reason of his physical condition and poverty he is unable to support himself by his own exertion and labor, and that he receives no pension but the one herein applied for.

Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved December 15th, 1894, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1905.  I have heretofore as a resident of Banks County been allowed a pension for the year 1904.

I, T. F. Hill Ordinary of said County, do certify that I am well acquainted with J. F. Pearson the applicant in the foregoing affidavit, and am well satisfied that the statements made by him in his said affidavit are true, and I know he is the individual he represents himself to be, and that he resides in this County.

Notes- John F. Pearson appears in the 1880 Cobb County, Ga., census as 29, born in Ga., with his wife Vandelia S., age 33, born in Georgia.  In the 1900 census in Banks County John F. Pearson appears as a 50 year old white male, born Sept. 1849, married 35 years, born in Georgia, his Father born in South Carolina and his Mother born in Georgia.  His wife is listed as V. S. Pearson, age 54, born Feb. 1846, married 35 years, 2 children born but none living, born in Georgia and her parents born in Georgia.  In the 1910 Banks County census (Washington District) they appear as John F. Pearson, age 65 and Vandella Pearson , age 63.

The “Banks County Journal” issue of Thursday, Nov. 27, 1914, states that Mrs. John Phearson did on Sept. 19, 1914.

On 4-14-1932 J. F. Pearson directed his pension money ($175 annually) be transferred to Felton  Lewallen “for board and taking care of me.”

Banks County Death Certificate # 9419 shows J. F. Pearson dying 22 Feb. 1936.
