Edward Eugene Echols, age 85, of Clermont, formerly of Lula, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Echols was born in Hall County on March 28, 1921, to the late Walker and Nancy Wheeler Echols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Hart Echols; and a sister, Carrene Barrett.
Mr. Echols was a member of Yonah Congregational Holiness Church. He formerly had been employed with Lumite (Chicopee Corp.), Warren Featherbone, and was a retired care giver with the Communicable Disease Center.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Fred Masters, Lula, and Pam and James Beasley, Clermont; two sisters, Gladys Echols, Cornelia, and Boyd McEver, Lula; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, from Yonah Congregational Holiness Church, with the Rev. John Umberhant, the Rev. Lester Haynes and the Rev. Lamar Kastner officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, from Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.

Winnie Hart Echols, 86, of Clermont died Friday at her residence.
Born in Banks County to the late Will and Josephine Dodd Hart, she retired from Wrigley Co. and also worked for Warren Featherbone. She was a member of Yonah Congregational Holiness Church. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Ferguson and Marcelle Hart; and brothers, Archie Hart and Nathaniel Hart.
Survivors include her husband, Edward E. Echols, Clermont; daughters, Brenda Masters, Lula, and Pam Beasley, Clermont; sisters, Ruth Underwood, Lula, and Hazel Crumley, Atlanta; brothers, Row Hart and Grady Hart, both of Lula, Lionel Hart and Kenneth Hart, both of Cornelia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Yonah Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. John Umberhant and the Rev. Lester Haynes will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

George W. "Snoz" Elrod, 83, of Clarkesville died Monday at Habersham County Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Habersham County to the late William Luther and Annie Hightower Elrod, he was the retired athletic director at North Georgia Tech, where he coached basketball and baseball. A U.S. Army Airborne veteran, he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member and deacon of Clarkesville Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and taught the young men's Sunday school class. He was a member of Clarkesville Masonic Lodge 325 F&AM. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Chuck" Elrod; and sister, Grace Gearino.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Gowder Elrod, Clarkesville; daughter, Athena Whitlow, Hilton Head, S.C.; son, Seth W. Elrod, Linville Falls, N.C.; brother, Allen Willford Elrod, Washington state; sisters, Janice Etheridge, Germanton, N.C., and Maryland Slater, Appling; and four grandchildren.
The family received friends Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Clarkesville Baptist Church. Dr. Henry Fields, the Rev. Chandler Lanier and the Rev. Grady Walden will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Banks County.

ELROD, Marvin E.
TOCCOA, Ga. - Marvin Early Elrod, 84, of 158 Davis Avenue, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
He was the son of late Early and Mertie Reese Elrod. He was born on Sept. 30, 1921 in Banks County, Ga. having lived most of his life in Stephens County, Ga. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and was the owner and operator of Elrod's Jewelry Store for over 50 years. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 4346 and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are wife, Eloise McIntyre Elrod of the home; daughter, Jackie Holland of Toccoa; sisters, Sara Ruth Pritchett of Commerce and Mary Nell Freeman of Gainesville; and a half-sister, Sue Holbrooks of Toccoa.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home by the Revs. Roger Elrod and Jerrell Beatty. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Walter Holland, 9186 Ayersville Road, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. J. W. Eubanks Dies in Banks Co.
Mr. J. W. Eubanks, aged 82, died at the home of his son, L. T. Eubanks, in Banks County, on June 5th, of
heart trouble, of which he had been ill with some 20 days. Funeral and interment took place at New Salem
church Tuesday with the Rev. Freeman in charge.
Mr. Eubanks was a devout member of the New Salem church and was held in high esteem by all who
knew him.
He is survived by the following children:
Mrs. Walter Adams, Jackson county, Mrs. A. B. McCoy, Mrs. T. B. Pendergrass, Mrs. W. G. Bray,
Mrs. Fred Brown, Mrs. Henry Borders, J. C. Eubanks, L. T. and Albert Eubanks, all of Banks county. He is
also survived by 44 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
B. D. Ginn, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.
