Thursday March 30,1899
Banks County Journal

Ex-Representative Thos. B Griffin is quite sick this week having contracted pneumonia. Strange to say but Mr. Griffin is confined to his room for the first time in more than forty years. His friends everywhere wish him a complete restoration to his former self.

April 6,1899
Banks County Journal
Death takes Hon. Thos B. Griffin

On last Friday evening at 6 o' clock the spirit of the venerable Thomas B. Griffin passed into eternity. He had pneumonia, was ill but a few days and his death was a shock to many of his friends who had not even heard of his illness.

Mr Griffin was 69 years old at the time of his death and had been a citizen of Banks County all of his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and had lived an exemplary life.

Mr. Griffin served in the Confederate army and a braver man never stood on the battle field.

At one time he represented the County in the legislature and was one of its most active , useful and influential members. He was brave , fearless, honest ,fair and public spirited ,standing for the rights with the weak against the strong at all times.

He made friends easily and had host of them. The widow and the orphan ever found him to be a friend and ideal nurse. He was honest, just, fair, upright, charitable, and conscientious in all his dealings with his fellow man. In the death of Mr. Grifin the county sustains the loss of one of her most fearless and patriotic citizens, the wife and children a devoted husband and Father who are left to mourn his loss. In this sad bereavement the family have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends.

The funeral exercises were conducted by his life long friend and a neighbor Rev. Johnny Bryan. His remains were laid to rest Sunday in the family burying ground on the Furr plantation.
