Commerce, Ga., July 29- T. H. MADDOX, editor of The Maysville News, died suddenly yesterday evening at his home in Maysville of heart failure. His remains were interred today.
Jewell Pruitt Maney Sr., age 87, of Baldwin died Monday, May 22, 2006, at a private care facility.
Mr. Maney was born on Oct. 13, 1918, in Banks County. He was a son of Richard Rolland and Rosa Mae White Maney and also was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lucille Nix Maney; son, Jewell Pruitt Maney Jr.; as well as four brothers, Voyce, Milus, Arthur and Rad Maney. Mr. Maney was a charter member of Demorest Church of God. He was the owner of Maney's Suit Shop, Toccoa.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Melvin King, and Shirlee and Jarrell Williams, all of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Jeanette Maney, Larry and Jane Maney, and Bobby and Vicki Maney, all of Baldwin; sisters, Willie Dorsey, Cornelia, Irene Maney, Cleveland, and Winnie Gabriels, Demorest; brothers, Bob Maney, Decatur, Clyde Maney and Richard Maney, both of Cornelia, and Monroe Maney, Austell; seven grandchildren, Michael Maney, Ekaterinburg, Russia, Karin Chumney, Acworth, Tyler Maney, Homer, Alisha Landers, Nicholson, Jeff Williams, Alto, Jackie Chowdhury, Oakwood, and Amanda Davis, Buford; four great-grandchildren, Clint Ballew, Madysen Williams, Macey Williams and Libby Maney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006, from Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Bill Cox and Pastor Mike Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jason Thornton officiating at the graveside.

James Loyd Marlow, 64, of Maysville died Saturday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Banks County to the late Zadie Shubert Marlow and Dave Marlow, he was a retired sergeant with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. He was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Belva Massey Marlow, Maysville; daughters, SiDonna Marlow Odum, Homer, and Sonya Marlow Hurt, Mount Airy; brothers, Johnny Marlow, Redwood Falls, Minn., Bobby Marlow, Taylors, S.C., and Coy Marlow, Maysville; sisters, Louise Westmoreland, Lula, Dianne Wills, Jefferson, and Lena Griswell, Cornelia; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Allen Mason, 46, of Homer died Sunday at his residence.
Born in Habersham County, he attended Piedmont College. He worked for Hudgins Construction Co. and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betsy West.
Survivors include his wife, Jerri Irvin Mason, Homer; son, Lex Mason, Homer; daughter, Rebeka Irvin, Homer; mother, Geraldine Galloway Mason, Baldwin; and father, George Mason, Homer.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

GASTONIA, NC - Eugene "Gene" T. Massey, 71, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Banks County, Georgia. He was the son of the late William Howard and Minnie Mae Rucker Massey. He retired from Public Service Co. of North Carolina where he worked as an auto mechanic, and later retired after 15 years from Freightliner as a group leader. He was a Korean War Army veteran, where he was a Jump Master of the 101st ABD. He was a 1973 graduate of Cleveland County Technical Institute.
His survivors include his wife of 44 years, Pattie Pressley Massey; son & daughter-in-law, Scott & Mary Ann Massey of Denver, NC; daughter & son-in-law, Debbie & Stewart Jenkins of Anderson, SC; daughter, Cindy Pell & her fiance, Dusty Drum both of Gastonia; son, Ricky Massey of Gastonia; brother & sister-in-law, James & Maxine Massey of Gastonia; sisters & brothers-in-law, Helen & Ernest Mauney of Gastonia, Elizabeth & Bill Allison of Gainesville, Ga.; twelve grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.

Kate Ray McCoy, 92, of Commerce died Friday at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Banks County to the late Recie Pritchett Ray and Lindsey C. Ray, she was a homemaker and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy McCoy.
Survivors include her sons, Tim McCoy, Maysville, and Randy McCoy, Marietta; daughter, Marie McCoy Evans, Commerce; sister, Jimmie Cochran, Ringgold; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ola Bell McCoy, of the Webb's Creek community, wife of Willie L. McCoy, died Sunday in the Hall County Hospital, in Gainesville, following an extended illness.
She was born in Banks County on November 15, 1886, a daughter of the late James Bray, and the late Mrs. Ellie Wilson Bray. Mrs. McCoy was a member of the Webb's Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Webb's Creek Baptist church, the Rev. R. H. Gilmore, assisted by Dr. J. Powhatan Cox, and the Rev. Earl E. Seckinger, officiating. Interment was in the churchyard.
Little-Ward Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Clarence McCoy, seven daughters, Mrs. John Richey, Mrs. John E. Carter, Mrs. Fred E. Brown, Mrs. J. D. Williams, Mrs. W. H. Carter, and Mrs. W. E. Segars, all of Commerce, and Mrs. Henry M. Sanders, of Atlanta; sixteen grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.

The Atlanta Constitution, 9 April 1890. Carnesville, Ga., April 8- Andy McKIE, one of Banks county's oldest citizens, died at his home twelve miles west of this place. He was a substantial farmer and had raised a large family, and had many friends and relatives who mourn his loss.
Mrs. A. J. McWhirter, a highly respected lady 93 years of age, died at her home near Sims bridge in Banks County yesterday. The internment was made at the home cemetery, with religious services conducted by Rev. K. Read.
Funeral service for Harwell O. MEADERS, who died Friday at the home of his son-in-law, Rev. J. R. Hones, of Tunnel Hill, were held Sunday afternoon at Gillsville, Rev. A. S. Hutchison officiating. Mr. Meaders, who was 74 years old, was well known in that section of the state, and had resided in Maysville until three years ago.

MRS. C. A. MEEKS DIES AT CARROLLTON HOME.
Carrollton, Ga., August 20- Mrs. C. A. Meeks, wife of the editor of the Carroll Free Press, died at the residence here Sunday night after a long illness. Internment was in the city cemetery Monday afternoon following funeral services held at the First Baptist church. The youngest of nine children, Mrs. Meeks was born near Fairplay, S. C., July 31, 1869, the daughter of John Clark Mason and Mary Maret Mason. When she was a young child the family moved to Banks county, Georgia, where she grew to womanhood and was married in 1891 to Columbus Allen Meeks of that county. Mrs. Meeks was a lifelong member of the Baptist church and before her health failed several years ago she was actively interested in religious and civic affairs. She had been a resident of Carrollton since 1914, when the family moved here from Banks county. Besides her husband, Mrs. Meeks leaves four sons, Ralph Meeks, of Atlanta; Lester, Roger and Mason Meeks, of Carrollton, and two daughters, Misses Lucile and Lois Meeks of Carrollton, and three grandchildren, Allen and Ruth Meeks, of Carrollton, and Ralph Meeks, Jr., of Atlanta. She is also survived by two brothers, Colonel Robert E. Mason, of Charlotte, N. C., and S. K. Mason, of Lafayette, Ga., and four sisters, Mrs. J. A. Hill, Mrs. J. D. Hill and Mrs. W. C. James M. Merck, 74, of Dahlonega died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Chestatee Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Banks County to the late Charles and Lois Griffin Merck, he had lived in Lumpkin County for more than 30 years. He was a retired paint and body mechanic, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his sons, James Merck, Cumming, and Freddie Merck, Dahlonega; daughters, Delores Jones and Robbie Gentry, both of Dawsonville, and Judy Christainsen, Clermont,; brother, Edward Merck, Athens; sisters, Willene Coker, Homer, Mary Lou Tench and Annie Lou Dixon, both Clarkesville, and Virginia Ayers, Atlanta; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Pritchett officiated. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.

David H. Messer, son of John Messer of Banks County, married Sophronia Morris, daughter of Henry J. Morris and Ascenith Allen, in Banks County. David H. Messer was an early schoolteacher in Banks and was likely buried with Sophronia Morris Messer at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
Maysville, Ga., October 6- William MINTZ, a popular citizen of this section, died this morning after a serious illness of six months. He was unmarried and leaves four brothers. Mr. Mintz was highly connected, being related to the Andersons, Blackwells and many other prominent families of this section.

Mrs. Nancy E. MORGAN, 56 years old, died at her residence, 11 North Boulevard, Friday morning at 1 o'clock. She is survived by her husband and six children. The body will be taken to Maysville, Ga., Sunday morning for funeral and interment.
H. [Henry] Coleman Morris, a resident of Gainesville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, to begin his celebration with the Lord for Eternity.
It was Coleman Morris' desire to have his family and friends join him in Heaven at their appointed time. Coleman was the loving husband of his lifelong sweetheart, Grace [Welborn] Morris. They were married for 58 years. He was the most wonderful father to his three children, Ronnie Morris and his wife, Angela; Pam Pinson Abernathy and her husband, Truett; Danny Morris and his wife, Lynn, all of Gainesville.
Coleman leaves a legacy of five grandchildren, Tanya Woody, Tim Pinson, Amy Williams, Katie Morris and Ben Morris; He also adored their spouses, Kevin Woody, Bridget Pinson and Robbie Williams and his eyes always light up for great-grandboys, Will Woody and Wyatt Woody. Coleman leaves one brother, Robert Morris of Homer; and several loved sisters-in-law and brother-in-law; nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Adell Morris; brother, Wilton Morris and a sister, Eunice Sheridan.
Coleman Morris was a distinguished World War II veteran who received a Purple Heart for his brave and courageous service to our country. He received 17 medals and special commendation for repairing rifles in pitch dark before daybreak.
Coleman was a devoted member of New Bridge Baptist church. Mr. Tom Couch chose Coleman to be his successor of volunteering to dedicate himself for the care of the Church lights, heat, air, and even water for the Pastors. He served devotedly for the past 41 years. Coleman's celebration to "Heaven Service" will be Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at New Bridge Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Milton Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville.
The deacons of New Bridge Baptist Church will serve as honorary pall bearers and are requested to assemble at the church at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to New Bridge Baptist Church 3120 Cleveland Highway, Gainesville, GA 30506.
Dr. Henry Bradford Morris, 92, died Friday, July 12, 2002.
Dr. Morris was born on September 9, 1909, in Maysville, the son of Mary Parks and William Franklin Morris.
He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1930, with a B.S. in chemistry, and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. In 1938, he received his M.D. degree from Emory University, where he was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. Mr. Morris entered a residency in Surgery at Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., serving as chief resident in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-45. After an assignment as Battalion Surgeon in Trinidad, Mr. Morris reported to the 106th General Hospital in Bournemouth, England, arriving in May 1944, just prior to D-Day. Captain Morris served as Chief of Septic Surgery there until March 1945 and volunteered for duty as Combat Surgeon for the Third Army under General Patton.
He practiced medicine in Birmingham from 1945 until 2000, when he retired at the age of 91. In addition to his private practice, he served for many years as the company doctor for Sloss Sheffield.
Mr. Morris was a clinical professor of surgery at UAB School of Medicine and was on the staff of many Birmingham hospitals, primarily South Highlands (now Health South) in his latter years. He had a life-long pursuit of knowledge, said family members. A skilled surgeon, he was devoted to the practice of medicine and to those under his care.
Dr. Morris held professional memberships in the Birmingham Surgical Society, the Jefferson Co. Medical Society, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the American Medical Association, the Emeritus Club of St. Vincent'
s Hospital, and the 801 Breakfast Club. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. The American Medical Association awarded him a Certificate of Merit for 50 years of practicing medicine.
Dr. Morris was also a member of The Club and a charter member of Vestavia Country Club.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Dr. Morris is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Billingsley Morris, and three devoted children: daughters, Susan Morris Cameron, Atlanta, and Brenda Morris Dixon, and husband, Richard Dixon, Wilmington, N.C., and son, Henry Bradford Morris Jr., and wife, Renee Hand Morris, Maysville; grandchildren, Andrew Christian Cameron and Eleanor Morris Cameron, Atlanta, and Texys Virginia Morris, Henry Bradford Morris III and William Franklin Morris, Maysville; sister, Helen Morris Reynolds, Mechanicsburg, Pa; and brothers, William Franklin Morris, Hazelhurst, and Dr. Joseph Henry Morris, Panama City, Fla.

YOUNG MAN DIES AT CORNELIA AFTER INJURIES BY SAW.
Cornelia, Ga., June 23- Clarence MOSS, 26, died here today of injuries received a few hours earlier, at a sawmill eight miles from here in Banks county. He was bearing off lumber and was stuck by the saw when he stepped upon the lumber carriage, witnesses said. He was rushed to Cornelia for treatment, but died soon after reaching there. He was badly cut. He was not married and is survived by his mother, three brothers and two sisters. He was the grandson of Hon. Elijah Duckett, a former member of the legislature from Banks county. Funeral plans have not been completed.

Muller, 84, pioneer resident of Atlanta, and native of Banks county, Georgia, who died Wednesday of a protracted illness, will be held at 10 o'clock this morning from the residence, 1116 Piedmont avenue. The Rev, Charles W. Daniel, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate, and internment will be in the family vault at Crest Lawn cemetery. Mrs. Muller was a resident of Atlanta for some 60 years, and a member of the Second Baptist church for more than 50 years. She was the widow of the late Fred J. Muller, prominent contractor and builder and veteran of the war between the states. Before her marriage she was Miss Frances Martha Sheridan, a member of the same family to which Gen. Philip Sheridan, noted civil was leader, belonged. Mrs. Muller is survived by four daughters, Mrs. A. B. Cook, of Jackson, Miss.: Mrs. Lena M. Seal, of Wheeling, W. Va.: Mrs. R. H. Shivers, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Ed Nehemins of St. Petersburg, Fla.: four sons, Fred M. Muller and William R. Muller, of Atlanta: George W. Muller of Washington, D. C.: and Dick Muller, of Tampa, Fla., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. J. Austin Dillon is funeral director in charge.
