O'KELLEY, James A.

June 29, 1929-Feb. 7, 2007

James A. O'Kelley, 77, of Maysville died Wednesday at Banks-Jackson-Comerce Nursing Home.

Born in Banks County to the late Ethel Boswell O'Kelley and Isiah O'Kelley, he retired from Banks-Jackson-Comerce Medical Center and was a member of Maysville United Methodist Church. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Quinn McElroy O'Kelley.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Maysville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dugar Strickland and the Rev. Grady Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.

OLIVER, Captain D. C.

CAPTAIN D. C. OLIVER'S FUNERAL.

Athens, Ga., December 7- The remains of Captain D. C. Oliver, who died suddenly in Macon Monday afternoon, reached Athens Tuesday. They were met at the depot by a large number of friends and escorted to the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. F. Miller. The remains were carried to Banks county and interred at New Salem church. Captain Oliver was a prominent Mason and Odd Fellow and was commander of Cobb-Deloney Camp, United Confederate Veterans. For many years he was the efficient chief of police in this city. He was a local preacher in the Methodist church and was one of the foremost advocates of temperance in the state. He had a record that few men could boast. Although he was sixty-six years of age, he had never known the taste of alcoholic stimulants or tobacco.

Mrs. Osborne, an aged lady, died here at the home of her brother, L. H. Gober, this morning. She had been ill for quite a while. Her remains were interred this afternoon at Mount Bethel church, near this place, with religious services conducted by Rev. W. S. Robison.

OWEN, Capt. John W.

Captain John W. Owen Dies at Toccoa Home

Toccoa, Ga., June 15-Special-


Capt. John W. Owen, age 73, ex-confederate soldier, mayor of Toccoa for many terms since 1875, the oldest lawyer in this section of the state and a prominent Mason, died here at 6 o�clock this morning after a brief illness of three or four days. Captain Owen came to Toccoa from Homer, Banks County, in the early 70's, and practiced law continuously since. Though very young, he went to the war between the states, and while on the field was made captain of his company.

Captain Owen is survived by his widow, and eight children; Mrs. C. W Hood, Commerce, Ga., Mrs. Jackson Rothell, Misses Annie, Lorena and Willie and Messrs. Willard, DeWitt and Winston Owen, all of Toccoa.

Tomorrow morning at 10 o�clock funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church, of which he had been an officer for many years, and Internment will be at the Toccoa cemetery with Masonic honors.

OWENS, Andrew A.

FATHER IS SLAIN BY HAND OF SON,

ANDREW OWENS, OF BANKS COUNTY, SHOT DEAD.

Maysville, GA., Nov. 26-

Andrew Owens [OWEN], of Banks county, was killed by his own son yesterday afternoon.

The young man came home intoxicated, it is alleged, and his father remonstrated him for drinking, when he drew a pistol and shot his father several times, killing him instantly. The son has not been arrested.

Andrew A. Owen, born in South Carolina on May 19, 1853 and died Nov. 25, 1905 is buried at Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Banks County, Georgia. His wife, Sarah Elizabeth Glasure Owen, Nov. 15, 1855-July 26, 1944, buried beside him at Hebron Presbyterian.

The body of Miss Eula Owens [sic] who asphyxiated in her boarding house in New Orleans a few nights ago, was brought here for internment. The funeral service was held at the home of E. G. Brock, after which the body was interred at Hebron church in Banks county
