Mr. Parks was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Banks County, but lived most of his life in Hall County. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korean War. Mr. Parks worked in the hotel industry and was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Dona Welborn Parks Sr.; son, Jeff Parks; and sister, Jeanette Whitmire.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerrold and Marsha Parks, Gillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Smith, Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hoyt and Tense Parks Jr., Gainesville, Edwin S. and Margaret Parks, Clermont, Benjamin and Joann Parks of Atlanta; brother-in-law and wife, J.D. and Lola Whitmire, Gainesville; and seven grandchildren.

Ivie Funeral Home announces services for Mrs. Ganil Parson, age 82, of Parson Circle, Maysville, who died Dec. 24, 2006, at her residence of an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Jones Trantham and the widow of Edward Parson.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelia Parson and Dorothy Griffin, both of Maysville; six brothers, Clyde Trantham, Elmer Trantham, Jimmy Trantham, Johnny Trantham and Alvin Trantham, all of Copper Hill, Tenn. and Roy Trantham of Waynesville, N.C.; one sister, Georgia Spivey of Dalton; and three grandchildren, Nicky Peppers, Scotty Peppers and Misty Lee. Five great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Winfred Trantham, and a sister, Lucille Painter.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. David Terrell and the Rev. Luke Parson officiating with burial in Banks County Memorial Gardens. The family is at the residence of a daughter, Dorothy Griffin, 340 Parson Circle, Maysville, and will receive friends in the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Martha Threlkeld Parsons 20 Feb. 1954
Mrs. Martha Threlkeld Parsons, 94, widow of C. E. Parsons, died at the residence of her grandson, C. P. Vaughn, following an extended illness.
She was born in Madison County and was a member of Silver Shoals Baptist Church. Her husband preceeded her to the grave in 1921.
Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, the Rev. George Collins officiating. Internment was in the Parsons cemetery.
Sanders Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Joe H. Parsons of Maysville; and a daughter, Mrs. Maggie Parsons Vaughn of Commerce; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
Mr. Meriwether PARSONS, an old and repected citizen of this community, died at his home in the Poplar Springs district last Saturday and was laid to rest in the family burying ground on Sunday. Mr. Parsons was about seventy-five years old. He leaves one son, Mr. Rella Parsons, and many grandchildren to mourn his death.

Born in Banks County to the late Ruby McGinnis Hill and Ben C. Hill, she was a homemaker and a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Paul.

Mary Louise Patterson Jenkins Payne, 85, of Mount Airy died Sunday at a private health care facility following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County to the late Lowery and Mamie Brown Patterson, she was a retired supervisor at Carwood Manufacturing. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cornelia. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh Jenkins; second husband, Arthur Payne; and sisters, Aileen Patterson Blair and Maxine Patterson Payne.
Survivors include her son, Mike Jenkins, Cornelia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Alfred H. Poole, 80, of Carnesville died Monday at Banks-Jackson-Commerce Medical Center.
He was the son of the late George Wiley Poole and the late Ruth Ayers Poole. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Poole; and brothers, Max Poole and Travis Poole. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his stepsons, Edward Moyer, Brunswick, and John Moyer, California; stepdaughter, Jeanette Perkins, Florida; brother, Wister Poole, Carnesville; sisters, Avis Lewallen and Jean Kay, both of Carnesville; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Ed Poole, 83, of Baldwin died Sunday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born in Banks County to the late John Stovall and Rosa Lee Sellers Poole, he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having received the Purple Heart award. He was a cattle agricultural farmer and a member of Line Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and former chairman of the building and grounds committee. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Roberts and Lola Mason; brothers, Tom Poole and J.D. Poole; and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Dalton Poole, Baldwin; daughters, Mary Lee Poole, Oakwood, Susie Osborn, Homer, and Anita Caudell, Toccoa; sons, David Poole, Windell Poole, Douglas Poole, Johnny Poole and Keith Poole, all of Baldwin; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John Bruce Poole, age 83 of Toccoa, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County on April 9, 1923, he was the son of the late John Harrison & Martha Lewallen Poole. He retired from Patterson Pump and was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and watermelon farming. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Allen Poole, Fletcher Poole, Wiley Poole, Aubrey Poole; sisters: Edith Turner, Annie Mae Garrison, Odessa Wood.
Surviving are wife, Jennie Lou Bellamy Poole of Toccoa; daughter, Patricia Aaron of Toccoa; sons: Kenneth Poole of Toccoa, Larry Poole of Lula, Roger Poole of Toccoa, Ralph Poole of Atlanta; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

DEWY ROSE-Verner N. Poole, 69, of 3028 Eagle Grove School Rd., died June 7, 2005 at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 19, 1936 in Banks County, he was the son of the late Charlie Bascom Poole and Sallie Pruitt Poole. He was the owner/operator of Farm Touch, Inc., a farm implement manufacturer, and was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Rice Poole of the home; sons, William Anthony Poole and Kevin Rice Poole, both of Dewy Rose; daughters, Gwen Vernette Friedrichs, Hoschton, and Laura Linda Mize, Royston; sister, Flora Nell Shaw, Hartwell; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Herman Poole; half brothers, Conrad and J.T. Kesler; and half-sisters, Lucille Hooper and Bert Smith.
The Revs. Bobby Jones, Jerry Durham and John Swanger officiated at the funeral services, held June 9, 2005 at the Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Purcell was born May 10, 1911, in Banks County. He was a son of the late John and Minnie Watkins Purcell and also was preceded in death by his first wife, Bronez Pless Purcell; daughter, Madge Purcell Frye; granddaughter, Amanda Frye; and brothers, Dr. Claude Purcell, Clarence Purcell and Clay Purcell. Mr. Purcell was a member of Enon Baptist Church and was a retail grocery salesman and former owner of Purcell Motel. He was a mason and member of Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F&AM.
