June Elaine Ramos-Ruelas, 47, of Athens died Sunday at her residence.

Born in Jackson County to the late Ruth Baker Elrod and Ervin Elrod, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Robert Simmons, Athens; daughters, Brandy Simmons, Athens; brothers, Chris Elrod, Commerce, Davy Elrod, South Carolina, Dennis Elrod and Bamm Bamm Elrod, both of Homer, and Branham Elrod, Athens; sisters, Ann Smith, Baldwin, Barbara Clark, Clarkesville, Sandra Willis, Homer, and Katina Elrod, Commerce; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Gailey will officiate. Burial will be in Hickory Flat United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lula.

RAGSDALE, Ruby Meeler

Aug. 9, 1914-July 25, 2006

Ruby Meeler Ragsdale, 91, of Baldwin died Tuesday at a private care facility.

Born in Banks County to the late Lee and Lola Black Meeler, she retired from Carwood Manufacturing and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ragsdale; sister, Willie Mae Cochran; and brother, Swain Meeler.

Survivors include her daughter, Eloise Howington, Suwanee; granddaughter, Pam Millikan, Suwanee; and two great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Luther Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Farmer Drops Dead Talking to Neighbor.

Lula, Ga., July 8-

J. J. Ray, a well known farmer of Banks county, dropped dead at his home Wednesday afternoon, while talking with a neighbor. He had been at work the day before and seemed in his ordinary good humor when he fell out of his chair. He owned a great deal of land, and was active in public affairs.

REESE, Mrs. Versa

Mrs. Versa Reese, 82, of Homer, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, of a brief illness.

Mrs. Reese was born February 7, 1919, in Banks County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Turk. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Toby Stokes officiating. Burial was in the Homer Presbyterian Church cemetery, Homer. Survivors include two sons, Charles Willard and Alton Matthew Reese, both of Homer; one daughter, Judy Lynn Reese Dingler, Lanett, Ala.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

REYNOLDS, SERGEANT MAJOR DOYLE F.

Sergeant Major Doyle F. Reynolds, 42, of Scottsville, KY, passed away June 23, 1973, after a boating accident in Glasgow, KY.

He was born in Central City, KY., on September 6, 1930, the son of Eldridge M. and Flossie Piper Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a 22 year Army veteran. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He taught at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta for many years. After retiring, he taught ROTC at R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston, GA.

Among his decorations and service metals, he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, 2 Soldier's Metals, and the Legion of Merit.

He is survived by wife, Betty Jean Newsome Reynolds; daughter, Cathy Ann; son, Mark, all of Scottsville, KY; mother, Flossie Piper Reynolds; brothers, Eldridge and Eugene; sisters, Wanda Hamilton and Joyce Dix all of Central City, KY; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in Central City, KY., on June 26th and at Castellaw Funeral Home in Smyrna, GA., on the 28th.

The Fort McPherson Army Chaplain officiated the funeral.

Interment was in the Georgia Memorial Gardens in Marietta, GA., with full Military Honors.

RIVES, Alline Shannon Gunnells

Alline Shannon Gunnells Rives, 75, of Hoschton died Wednesday following an extended illness.

Born in Banks County to the late William and Mattie Myers Shannon, she was a member of Romans Road Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Howington; first husband, Leroy Gunnells; and second husband, Chester Rives.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Mize, Homer, Bobbie Davis, Leesburg, Carolyn Gunter, Hoschton, and Pam Davis, Pendergrass; sisters, Beatrice Cain, Jefferson, Edith Metcalf, Ft. Gaines, and Vivian Waddell, Winder; brother, EB Shannon, Jefferson; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at Romans Road Baptist Church. The Rev. Roger Hardy will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

C.W. Robinson, 65, of Maysville died Thursday at New Horizons West following an extended illness.

Born in Jackson County, he was a construction worker and member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Dovie Shubert Rogers, 75, of Demorest, died Friday at a private health care facility following an extended illness.

A native of Banks County, she was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

The Increased Mortality Among The Older People. Homer, Ga., June 2- There have been several deaths in this county within the last week. The older people seem to be dying rapidly. On last Monday, Mr. Eilott RUCKER [as printed], aged 72 years, was buried near his home in this county, with Masonic honors. Mr. Rucker was one of the oldest citizens of the county, a good citizen and a Christian gentleman.

Jose M. U. Rucker, 43, of Commerce died Thursday following an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Harold Rucker.

RYLEE, Grover H.

Grover H. Rylee Dies Friday in Homer

Grover H. Rylee, 71 former clerk of Banks superior court, and retired farmer, died Friday in his residence in Homer following a brief illness.

He was born in Banks county on June 5, 1894, a son of the late John R. Rylee and the late Mrs. Julia Frances Rucker Rylee. Mr. Rylee was a member of the Maysville Lodge, No. 347, Free & Accepted Masons, and he was a member of the Grove Level Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Tommy Conn Memorial Chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, the Rev. W. J. Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Grove Level Church cemetery. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Buris Lewallen Rylee, he is survived by three sons, Otis Rylee, of Homer, G. H. Rylee, Jr., of Maysville, and George P. Rylee, of Forest Park; two daughters, Miss Lucille Rylee, of Homer, and Mrs. William T. Elliott, of Decatur; nine grandchildren; a brother, Sam Rylee, of Maysville; and two sisters, Mrs. R. B. Telford, of Maysville, and Mrs. Henry Lewallen, of Commerce.

RYLEE, Joseph Emory "Joe:

Joseph Emory "Joe" Rylee, age 72, of Highway 52, Gillsville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow at Timberidge Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Howard Bledsoe and the Rev. Bradley Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rylee was the son of the late Joseph Samuel Rylee and Susie Griffin Rylee. He was born in Banks County but had lived in Hall County for most of his life. Mr. Rylee was a state revenue agent for several years, and a trucking dispatcher at Jesse Jewell and Country Pride. Mr. Rylee served on the Hall County Parks and Recreation board for many years. He retired from the State of Georgia Department of Agriculture Fuel Inspection Division. Mr. Rylee was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, C.D. "Jack" and Ruby Cagle Cape; and a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Beth Hewell.

Mr. Rylee is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Hazel Cape Rylee; his children, Pam and Mike Smith, Pat Rylee, Mike Rylee, Mitchell and Karen Rylee and Sheryl Rylee. He was "Papa" to Kyle, Erika, Kasey and Kody Rylee, Michael Smith, Brandi and Kyle Hewell. "Papa Joe" to his great-grandson, Kayden Hewell. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard, Olin, Jerry, Jack and Danny Rylee; and sister, Mattie Marinos, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Rylee, William

End comes to William Rylee suddenly in Maysville.

Maysville, Ga., May 26-

William Rylee, a prominent citizen of Banks county, whose home was near this place, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Rylee was over 70 years of age.

Mr. Rylee was one of the few remaining ones who went to California in 1849 in search of gold. He accumulated a large amount of wealth and was widely known as a successful businessman.

Additional Comments:

William Rylee is buried in Gillsville Cemetery. His stone gives his death date as May 25, 1902 and "Age 75 years".
