Harn, Hearn, Hearne

John Hearne (16??-1718) of Colleton County, South Carolina, had a son John Hearn(1710-1765) who married Elizabeth Beddise in 1732 and settled in Orangeburg South Carolina, they had nine children and 28 slaves. John and Elizabeth moved to Saint Philips Parish (Bryan Co) in 1742 and acquired over 3000 acres of land, the first of which was 500 acres on the Ogeechee River near the west side of Sterling Creek. There are still oak trees there planted in the shape of an H for Harn. He served as the English Colonial Tax Assessor and a member of the Colonial Royal House of Representation. In 1760 he moved his family to the Canoochee River, and formed Belknap Plantation, near the present site of Clyde where Fort Stewart is now located.

Many of these Harn's left descendents in Bryan Co. and they are still there today. A compilation of the Harn Family and Descendents was written in 1984 and has been updated annually by LaMonnie Harn Moore and Sandra M. Harn.
