J. M. McMichael - A Brutal Assault

In which Mr. J. M. McMichael was Painfully Hurt

On Tuesday night just after dark, while our ever faithful and efficient Marshall, J. M. McMichael, had two young men under arrest for being disorderly on the streets, he was struck from behind and felled to the ground.  The blow was a heavy one and struck him on the right side of the head above the ear, making an ugly wound.   He was carried into Dr. Carmichael´s drug store and the wound dressed by Dr. Bryans, after which he was carried to his home.  It being dark and his assailant standing behind it is not known who made the lick.

Mr. Jim Strange was accused but has not yet had a hearing before the Mayor.  The trial is set for tomorrow at 10 o´clock.

This is an outrage.  Mr. McMichael was on duty and was doing his duty at the time.  Let our officers should be protected at all hazards.
