Claude Hammond - Sent to the Chain Gang
Claude Hammond, who was convicted last February of carrying concealed weapons and sentenced to pay a fine of fifty dollars or serve eleven months in the chain gang. Mr. Clem Towles paid the fine and Hammond was put under contract to work out the time on Towles farm. Towles claimed that Hammond failed to fulfill his part of the contract and turned him over to the sheriff on last Tuesday. The case was tried before Judge Carmichael on Thursday and Towles charges were sustained, and Hammond will be required to serve the remainder of his sentence in the chain gang. His time will expire on the 17th of December.
