Exciting Race
On Wednesday last while the teams from Monticello were receiving freight from our depot a difficulty occurred between two of the drivers of Mr. J. G. Tollerson's teams.
George Moreland, col, drew a pistol and fired at his adversary, Henderson Hester, col, causing one of the teams to run with the loading and otherwise creating considerable excitement for a few minutes. At this juncture George thought best to make tracks toward Jasper County. Judge Douglas having ordered his arrest, several of our citizens started in pursuit of the fugitive, and we would here state, if there is anything that can outrun M. G. Murchinson, John Williamson, Pom Barber and the other boys who brought up the rear, we would like to se it. They brought in their game, and after a preliminary trial, Judge Douglass committed him to jail on the charge of assault with intent to murder.
