Henry Barber Shot
Henry Barber, colored, who has been hiding out to escape being arrested on a warrant issued by the Grand Jury charging him with disturbing divine worship was surprised by Sheriff Beauchamp one day last week and marched to Butts county´s palace lockup. After the arrest it was found that he had recently been shot in the back of that head with a pistol ball. Dr. Bryans extracted the ball which he found lodged against the skull and as flat as a dime. He admitted that another Negro had shot him in a difficulty the day previous who, thinking he had killed his victim, made good his escape. He, however was struck in the wrong place, as you would as well try to shoot a ball through a marble statue as the average darky´s cranium.
