A SAD ACCIDENT

COL. MARCUS BECK

Col. Marcus Beck, while hunting in Tennessee last week happened to the misfortune of accidentally shooting his little cousin a twelve-year-old boy.  In attempting to shoot a squirrel that was jumping from a tree his gun was prematurely discharged, the load of shot lodging in the left breast of the boy just above the heart.  The two were in the woods alone but Col. Beck quickly summoned help and carried the little sufferer to his home a mile away where the best surgical aid of Knoxville was called.  Col. Beck left on the following morning and at that time there were some hope of his recovery through severely wounded.  We deeply sympathize with them in their dire misfortune.
