Elgin Methodist Church

Elgin Methodist Church, six miles south of Jackson, has been completed, and is a very neat and well constructed church edifice.  The material, workmanship and acoustics are splendid.  This church is well located, is of easy access from all directions. And meets a long felt want.  The speedy completion of the church is largely attributable to the energy of W. J. Garr and W. H. Hammond of the building committee, also, to the energy and skill of J. R. Hammond, Rev. Jesse McKleroy, C. W. Grant, Brownlee and Coody who did the work.  It is a thing of beauty and joy to its members and friends.  This church was founded October 1890 by Reverends Dillard and Kenney.  Much of the success of the church is owing to the untiring energy of these faithful men of God, servants and lovers of men.  The membership now number 63.  The recent protracted meeting, conducted by the pastor, R. J. M. Tumlin, assisted by John Henrdrix, the sweet singer, was in every way a success.

The formal dedication service will be on the fifth Sunday in November.  Rev. J.J. N. Kenney will preach the dedication sermon.  After a basket dinner, Rev. M. H. Dillard will preach.  The public is cordially invited to attend.
