FRIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE
Capt. McCord had a frightful experience on Saturday.
He was on the Jasper side of the Ocmulgee and attempted to cross with himself and son and daughter, Mrs. Dr. Butner, and her three year old child in a bateau. The river was raging from the recent heavy rains and just after leaving the bank the boat was thrown under a limb of a tree and capsized and threw the entire party into the water. The brave woman caught to a limb with one hand and held her babe with the other while the others swam to the shore. Dr. Butner was on the bank near by and plunged in and saved the child while the mother with heroic coolness held to the limb till she was rescued. It was a frightful ducking and the escape was miraculous.
