Historic Clock
Mr. G. S. Hanes is repairing a clock which was owned by Butts County's greatest astronomer, Robt. Grier, the author of Grier's Almanac. Mr. Hanes says the clock is as good as it ever was and is an old Seth Thomas clock. The clock is now owned by a Mr. Nolan, who married the widow of Sid Grier, a son of the original Robt. Grier, and he lives in the same house in which Robt Grier died, which is four miles from Jackson. Robt. Grier was a Presbyterian and held three scholarships in Due West College at Abbeville, S.C. He gave one to Judge John I. Hall, one to Mr. Obe Hendrick, and one to Mr. Julius Gunn, all of whom availed themselves of a collegiate course through his kindness and made good citizens.
