Family Reunion - Mr. & Mrs. W. J. Kimbell
The children, grandchildren and la large concourse of the friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Kimbell assembled at their hospitable home three miles north of Jackson on the 4th of July to celebrate the 123 anniversary of our nation’s independence. Overhung by branches of walnut, cedar and mulberry, the old home stand a monument to the rural mansion of the Confederacy and an emblem of Southern hospitality.
Mr. and Mrs. Kimbell were blessed with six children, all of whom are living, and eighteen grandchildren now honor and reverence them in their old age, both of them having passed sixty.
A more pleasant day could not have been selected and the passing zephyrs kissed the crest of the slight hill on which the home stands. Marble playing was the order of the day. The happy voices of the children sounded from the lawn where they were engaged in games, which delight childish fancy. When the dinner hour arrived the guests were summoned to a very long table placed in the shade of a beautiful spreading oak in the back yard. The dinner consisted of soup, mutton, beef, ham, chicken, loaf bread, pickles salad, custards, pies, jellies, preserves, all kinds cake, and numerous miscellanies.
It is impossible to describe with the pen the measure of enjoyment these eatables afforded. Not only the selection and quantity of food, but also the superb cookery displayed is worthy of mention.
The 4th was never more pleasantly spent. We sincerely hope that this estimable father and mother will live many years yet to enjoy the annual reunion of children and friends.
