Mattie King - Hustled Out

A rumor reached Sheriff Beauchamp last Sunday that Mattie King was in danger of being lynched by some parties near Worthville and in order to prevent anything of that kind he called in Deputy Sheriff Crawford and securing a close hack, slipped the prisoner off to Jenkinsburg and there took the train for Atlanta. She was put in jail there to be called for by the penitentiary authorities.

This was the woman who killed the little Washington boy at Worthville and who was sentenced to five years imprisonment at the adjourned term of Butts superior court.
