An Old Note
Bob Lyons handed The Argus an old promissory note a few days ago which was given by his grand father in 1845, more than 50 years ago, in favor of O. W. Wassly. The note is written on a scrap of letter paper and presents a very striking contrast to the iron clad torpedo instruments of the present day. This note is something of a curiosity. It reads as follows:
-($70.00) by the 25th of December eighteen hundred and forty six I promise to pay to O. W. Wassy seventy dollars for value received, but if it is not convenient to pay at maturity of the note I am to have until the 25th of December, eighteen hundred and forty seven by paying ten dollars more. August 22, 1845. J. L. By Lyons.-
