PEPPERTON COTTON MILLS

It is not a bad idea to get familiar with the name of the new industry, which is now in its embryonic state.  The above name has been decided upon as the one by which the new mill will be called.  This will immortalize old Pepperton, and its namesake will go down as posterity is a grater benefactor than that from which the name was derived.  We are more than glad to state that work has been begun on this plant.  The site as been selected and is at present being cleared and cleaned and gotten in shape for the building material.

The plant will be erected on the right of the railroad very nearly in front of the Negro church at Peppertown.  This will put the factory about one mile from the depot.  The railroad authorities will soon put in a side tract and work will then begin in earnest and workmen will ere long be busy with a saw, hammer and trowel constructing this monument to the pride, industry and zeal of its promoters.

As we have stated before this factory will not only make thread but will weave it into cloth.    This is a step further in the make up of cotton than is usually attempted in the small factories throughout the State.

The dimensions of the main building which is to consist of two stories are to be 50 by 280 square feet.  It will require about one million brick to go into this structure and 1,000 barrels of cement to hold them in place.

It would not be inappropriate to have a little merry making and speech making when the corner stone of this building is laid.   If the builders will let us know the day and hour of its laying Jackson will turn out to see the important event and the occasion will go down with the history of the factory.
