S. L. Ballard - Killed
Lee Penn who killed S. L. Ballard at Griffin was in the neighborhood of Monticello, his old home, till two weeks ago, when he was carried away in the arrival of an officer from Griffin, looking after a horse and wagon, that had been stolen from Opelika and traced that far. A couple of days ago a telegram was received from Valdosta stating that Penn was there, and Thursday Deputy Sheriff John Patrick went down after him and was expected to return with him last night but failed to arrive. They may come up this morning.
