Mr. Charles O. Beauchamp - New City Father On Wednesday the city election was held which ushers in a new city government for the year 1900.
The new councilmen are also very progressive men and will aid materially in making the present year one of the best in the history of Jackson. They are J. R. Wright, Dr. W. C. Bryant, R. H. Carmichael and W. P. Nutt. The terms of these officers are for two years each and that they will encourage the spirit of progress which has now taken hold upon the town goes without saying.
The election was a very quiet one, owing to the fact that there was no contest, the matter being practically settled by the mass meeting held at the court house last week. There was no friction whatever in the mass meeting. Everything was done harmoniously and seemingly with the good of the city in view.
Charlie Beauchamp had no opposition for mayor in the nomination or the election, and so enters upon the discharge of his duties as our chief executive with the unanimous consent of all our people. This is a compliment to him, and it means that Jackson will have no more blood hatches to wave in the air.
Mr. Beauchamp is a most progressive young man and is one of the first graduates of Jackson Institute. He is also a graduate of Emory College. He is fully alive to the educational business and moral interest of our town as already proven by his attitude on public question, and it is freely predicted that his administration will be characterized by popularly directed energy. Jackson now has one of the youngest mayors in the state, but one possessed with the elements that go to make up a competent executive office.
Prominent citizens are now saying, -It is the most harmonious state of affairs we have ever known in Jackson.- The people are becoming more thoroughly united touching the public good than ever!
All this means that Jackson is going forward at a rate that will surprise the most imagine.
