Mrs. Abel, Aged 92, Claimed by Death
Mrs. Mary Jane Abel, 92 years of age, one of the county's oldest and most beloved women, died Tuesday night at 8 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. O. Pettigrew, near Jackson. Two or three years ago she sustained injuries in a fall and never recovered from the shock and complications.
Born in South Carolina, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Crawford, she moved to Jasper county about 55 years ago and had resided in this section since that time. She was the widow of G. W. Abel and after her husband's death had made her home with her daughters. She formerly resided at College Park where she was a member of the College Park Presbyterian church. She had a large circle of friends who are grieved to know of her death.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. J. L. Bailey Sr. and Mrs. J. O. Pettigrew of Jackson; Mrs. Walter Brown of Egan, Ga.; Mrs. Georgia Pervine of Chester, S. C ; Mrs. B. W. Eadie of Charleston, S. C ; Mrs. Pauline Denson of College Park. She is also survived by several grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at the College Park cemetery Thursday morning at 11 o'clock, with the pastor of the College Park Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in the churchyard with Thornton Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
