Ernest L. Adams, Former Citizen, Died in Atlanta.
Ernest L. Adams, 73, former resident of Jackson and widely known southern business circles, died in a private hospital in Atlanta June 6 after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Friday at 4:30 at the Jackson Methodist church of which he was a former steward. The Rev. W. Sam Norton, pastor, and Dr. Vernon S. Broyles of Atlanta conducted the service and burial was in the Jackson cemetery. Henry B. Blanchard & Son Funeral Home directed plans.
The pallbearers were T. E. Robison, H. O. Ball, L. M. Spencer, M. O. McCord, Avon Gaston, E. S. Settle.
Born and reared here, the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. J. C. Adams, he was employed by the Jackson Mercantile Company for some years, later going to Atlanta where he formed the E. L. Adams Wholesale Grocery Co. He retired from business 20 years ago and resided in Jacksonville, Fla. Until three years ago when he returned to Atlanta. Recently he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Roy LeCraw, and Mr. LeCraw. Mr. LeCraw is a former mayor of Atlanta.
Mr. Adams served for many years as the secretary of the National Wholesale Grocers Association. He was a Mason and Shriner and a former Kiwanian. He also once served as head of the Credit Men's Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Mollie Carter of Jackson; two sons, J. Frank and Leonard C. Adams of Jacksonville; a daughter Mrs. Roy LeCraw; one brother, Emmett Adams, Atlanta; several grandchildren.
