Mr. James David Aiken
James D. Aiken Passed Friday Near Jackson
Mr. James David Aiken, 75 years of age, widely known resident of Coody district, died Friday morning at 11:20 after a long period of feeble health and a serious illness of several weeks.
Born in Butts county, October 13, 1868, he was the son of Wiley Aiken and Mrs. Amanda Thaxton Aiken, of Butts county. Older residents recall that his father, standing 6 feet and 3 inches in height, was at the head of the Forty-Fifth Infantry when that regiment marched off to join the Confederate Army. The late Wilson Smith was a member of the same regiment and his 6 feet and 2 inches placed him next to Aiken at the head of the company.
Mr. Aiken was engaged in farming, until his health failed. He was a member of High Falls Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. H. G. Lowry and Miss Ruth Aiken, and a son, H. R. Aiken, and a grandson, Ray Lowery, all of Butts county.
Funeral services were held at Liberty Church Sunday morning at 11 clock and the services were conducted by the Rev. J. T. Thaxton. Burial was in the church cemetery with Thornton Funeral Homes directing arrangements.
