Graveside Rites In Macon Sunday Mr. Ainsworth
Mr. Malcolm Ainsworth, 70, of Jackson, a son of a Methodist Bishop and prominently identified in Southeastern Chamber of Commerce circles for over 40 years, died Saturday afternoon in Macon Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Ainsworth was taken to the hospital by ambulance Thursday morning. He succumbed to a coronary embolism and uremic poisoning following lengthy surgery Friday.
Mr. Ainsworth was born in Attapulgus, the son of Methodist Bishop William N. Ainsworth and Mrs. Mary Nicholson Ainsworth. His father was a former president of Wesleyan College and pastor of the Mulberry Street Methodist Church in Macon.
Mr. Ainsworth began his career as a newspaperman, working on the editorial staff of the Macon Telegraph and the Savannah newspapers. He was a former executive secretary of the Macon Chamber of Commerce and was an organizer of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
He served with chambers in Spartanburg, S. C., Asheville, N. C., and Athens, retiring from the Athens directorship because of ill health about 10 years ago. Mr. Ainsworth was managing director of the Southeastern division of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and later of the Northwestern division. Mr. Ainsworth was a member of the Jackson Methodist Church and of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Mercer. University.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at four o'clock at Riverside Cemetery in Macon with the Rev. Ray Dunahoo, pastor of the Jackson Methodist Church, and the Rev. A. W. Ray officiating. Hart's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ainsworth is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Lyons Ainsworth of Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. Reginald Gray Jr. of Hattiesburg, Miss.; a brother, William N. Ainsworth of Atlanta and five grandchildren.
