Mrs. Ainsworth, Wife of Bishop, Buried in Macon
Funeral services for Mrs. W. N. Ainsworth, 91, widow of Methodist Bishop Ainsworth, who died Tuesday in Monroe County Hospital, Forsyth, were held Wednesday afternoon in Mulberry Methodist Church, Macon, with Dr. Frank Robertson and the Rev. A. W. Ray officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Ainsworth's husband was president of Wesleyan College from 1909 to 1912. The former Miss Mary Nicholson, she was born in Attapulgus, the daughter of Dr. Malcolm Nicholson and Mrs. Virginia Smith Nicholson. She entered Wesleyan in the class of 1891. On October 11 1898 she married Bishop Ainsworth
. Her husband became pastor of Mulberry Street Methodist Church In Macon at 29, the youngest pastor in the church's history.
During her husband's presidency at Wesleyan, the famous Soong Sisters of China were students at Wesleyan, where Mrs. Ainsworth became close friend of these famous women. Mr. Ainsworth was named a Bishop in 1918.
Mrs. Ainsworth is survived by two sons, W. N. Ainsworth Jr. of Atlanta, and Malcolm Ainsworth of Jackson; a sister, Mrs. W. M. McIntosh of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
