Mrs. Hattie Tommie Barron Akin
Mrs. B. F. Akin Is Claimed By Death.
After an illness of several weeks, Mrs. B. F. Akin, one of the county's most prominent and beloved women, died at her home in Jenkinsburg Monday morning at 7 o'clock. Several weeks ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis and her condition for several days had been the cause of concern to the family and friends. Many friends throughout this section will regret to know of the passing of this prominent woman.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Beersheba church, near Locust Grove, of which she had long been an active and influential member. An immense throng gathered for the last rites, conducted by her pastor, Elder Dan Henderson, of Atlanta, assisted by Elder A. C. Elliott, of McDonough. The love and esteem in which she was held was attested by the lovely floral offerings. Interment was in the churchyard.
Mrs. Akin, who was Miss Tommie Barron, member of an old and influential family of this section, before her marriage, was the wife of Dr. B. F. Akin, president of the Farmers Bank of Jenkinsburg and well know physician. She leaves one daughter, Miss Lucile Akin, teacher in the Hartwell high school and prominent in club work throughout the district and state. She is also survived by a brother, Dr. J. F. M. Barron, of Milner.
She was a women of exalted Christian character and was a skilled nurse and her ministrations to the sick and infirm will long be held in grateful appreciation. She was a devout member of the Primitive Baptist Church, which claimed much of her interest. Her many fine traits of character won for her the love and admiration of a host of friends by whom she will be sincerely mourned.
