Jimmy Alberson
A 5-vehicle accident Wednesday morning, June 29, left one man dead and three others injured on 1-75 near the Highway 36 interchange.
State trooper Don Halstead said Jimmy Alberson of Forest Park was traveling south on 75 he ran into a heavy rain and lost control of his 1982 Ford. Alberson crossed the median and struck head-on a 1976 GMC truck driven by Arnold Phillips of Soperton. Alberson was killed on impact Halstead said.
Phillips crossed the median into the south-bound lane to avoid Phillips' vehicle, Joseph Gibson of Columbus, Ohio, swerved his transfer truck rig, hitting the median and turning over. Gibson received minor injuries Halstead said.
The Phillips vehicle continued across the median and struck a 1980 Chevette driven by Vada Bramlett of Vada Bramlett of Novleton Fla., before overturning and burning in the ditch. Phillips escaped with head injuries.
Bramlett car went in a spin when it struck, hitting a 1982 Olds Cutlass driven by (?) Sieglitz of Novleton, Fla. Bramlett was taken to Henry General Hospital where she was listed in serious condition Friday afternoon. Stieglitz was not injured according to Halstead.
Halstead said it took almost four hours to clear the accident scene and get traffic back to normal. A crane had to be used to right the overturned transfer rug he said.
