Rites For Mr. Allen Tuesday
Mr. Asa Marshall Allen, 59, member of a prominent Flovilla family; died about 2 o'clock, Monday afternoon at Sylvan Grove Hospital following a brief illness. He was admitted to Sylvan Grove on December 29, suffering from flu and pneumonia. Complications from these two illnesses are believed to have caused his death.
Mr. Allen was born on April 19, 1915, in Flovilla, the son of the late Mr. R. L. Allen and Mrs. Marie Marshall Allen.
Mr. Allen was a member of the 1933 class of Jackson High School and upon graduation, attended Birmingham Southern College. Returning to Flovilla, he engaged in the cattle business and was also a merchant. He was a member of the Flovilla Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, serving as sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. James Bohannon, pastor of Flovilla Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Flovilla cemetery with Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Allen is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Orvis A. Roberts, Atlanta; Miss Sarah T. Allen, Flovilla; Mrs. John W. Harkins, McDonough; Mrs. Rebecca Heil, Boston, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Robert Smith, Dewey Lassiter, Larry Smith, C. A. Anthony, W. E. Mayfield, Tim Skinner.
