One Killed When Automobiles Hit
Fatal Wreck Occurred Sunday Afternoon. Others in Party Injured. Miss Allen's Funeral Held.
Miss Doris Allen, aged 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Allen, of Fincherville, was killed almost instantly when the car in which she was riding overturned after a collision with another car, Sunday afternoon at Four Points. Her skull was fractured and she lived but short time after being extricated from the wreckage.
Others in the car were more or less seriously injured and were given prompt medical attention the accident happened when the car, a Chevrolet, in which Miss Allen and five others, including Miss Mattie Mackey, Miss Lillian Smith, Lindsey Maddox, owner of the car, Dan Swint and Mr. Jenkins, ran into another car owned by Mr. Charlie McMichael, of Monticello. The Maddox car was traveling in the direction of Jackson, while the McMichael Car, a Ford, driven by his daughter by and with his wife and two smaller children as passengers, was proceeding east on the highway to Pittman's Ferry. The Maddox car, said to have been traveling at a high rate of speed ran into the Ford. The Chevrolet was turned over and was almost demolished.
Miss Mackey suffered bruises and was considerably shaken up Miss Smith sustained a fractured arm. None of the boys in the car was seriously injured. Neither was Mr. McMichael or the members of his family badly hurt.
News of the accident, probably the worst in the history of the county, spread quickly and soon attracted a large, crowd was soon attracted to the spot. Prompt medical attention was given the injured and everything possible done to relieve the suffering. Late reports stated all the injured were resting comfortably.
The wreck is most regrettable and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Allen sympathize with them deeply in their great bereavement.
Funeral services for Miss Allen were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Sardis church, with Rev. George W. Hulme, of Locust Grove, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. In addition to her parents, she is survives by four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Kitchens, Mrs. Marvin Bowden; Mrs. Nell Bryant and Miss Maggie Allen; five brothers, Melvin, Ernest, Barron, Ralph and Troy Allen.
