Brother, Sister Killed When Car Crashed into Tree
Butts county relatives and friends were sorry to learn of the automobile accident in which Edward S. Allen, retired railroad conductor, was killed and his sister, Miss Julia Allen, both of Covington, fatally injured. They have a brother, Mr. G. W. Allen, who resides in Jackson.
The accident occurred late Thursday on the Covington-Madison highway. The car in which Mr. Allen and his sister were riding crashed into a tree. Mr. Allen was killed almost instantly and his sister died at midnight in a hospital in Athens.
Both were connected with widely known Newton county families. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, at the Covington Methodist church, with the Methodist and Presbyterian ministers officiating. Burial was in. the Covington cemetery.
Mr. Allen and Miss Allen are survived by two brothers, G. W. Allen, of Jackson, and John Allen, of Shreveport, La.; four sisters, Mrs. W. M. Robinson, of Augusta; Mrs. Lon Shipley, of Arkansas; Mrs. Robert Bickerstaff, of Athens, and Mrs. Jempsey Farmer; of Decatur.
