E. D. Allen Buried Sunday At Jackson
Mr. Erastus Duke Allen, 69, of Chamblee, a former resident of Jackson, died early Saturday morning, January 15th, shortly after being admitted to Veterans Hospital No. 48 in Atlanta. He was in his accustomed health until about a week ago when he began suffering abdominal pains;
Mr. Allen, a retired bookkeeper, lived in Jackson for varying periods since 1919 or 1920. He was a veteran of World War I and served as a bookkeeper while in service. Mr. Allen retired about ten years ago from active work because of reasons of health. He was a member of the Brookhaven Methodist Church and of the Masonic Lodge in Jackson.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Brookhaven Methodist Church. Interment was in the Jackson City Cemetery with H. M. Patterson & Son in charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held here at approximately 4:30 o'clock.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, the former Miss Emma Allen of Jackson; three daughters, Mrs. L. R. Hogue, Atlanta; Mrs. Lee A. Couch, Atlanta; Mrs. A. W. Bailey, Orlando, Fla.; one son, James E. Allen, Chamblee; one sister, Mrs. Coleman Martin, Decatur; brothers, S. E. Allen, East Point; C. B. Allen, Miami, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
