Mr. F. M. Allen Obit

Death Called To Mr. F. M. Allen.

The death of Mr. F. M. Allen, 71 years of age, which occurred at his home here shortly after midnight, Saturday morning, removes one of the most prominent Masons in the state and a citizen who had long been identified with the growth and progress of Jackson. He had been in failing health for some time but had been confined to his room for only a few weeks. Death was attributed to a heart trouble.
Born April 18, 1853, in Providence, R. I. and reared in Boston, Mass. Mr. Allen had been a resident of Jackson since 1892. During his residence in the city he had been engaged in the grocery and clothing business and at the time of his illness was operating a successful printing business.
Mr. Allen possessed the highest ideals of integrity and business dealings. He was honest and upright in his conduct, true to his friends and generous in his charities. He was known to most of the citizens of the county and esteemed as a friend by all. A man of splendid intellectual attainments and unflagging energy, he carried on until the last.
While prized as a friend and companion, Mr. Allen was perhaps best known as a Mason. This work challenged his keenest interest and he exemplified in his daily life the noble tenets of the order. He had been a Mason for a great many years and had filled most of the offices. (Next paragraph can not be read)
He was a member of the Shrine, being among the first Shriners in Jackson. His interest in Masonic work never ceased. He was regular in attendance upon the meetings of the various bodies. He had been a true and loyal friend to many of the younger Masons of the county. As a citizen and as a Mason he will be missed in the entire community.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, who was a Miss Laura Hanes of Jonesboro, before her marriage; a daughter, Mrs. Fredna Allen Kelley, wife of Col. John Inzer Kelley, of Lawrenceville, and a son, Mr. Henry Allen, who is connected with the post office department at Jackson, as rural carrier.
The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Henry H. Jones, pastor of the Jackson Methodist church, officiated and paid a loving tribute to the worth and character of the deceased. The pallbearers were selected from the past commanders of Alexius Commandery and were Sir Knights O. E. Mallet, J. B. Hopkins, H. O. Ball, J. D. Jones, C. M. Compton, H. M. Moore, and the following Sir knights, A. B. Lindsey, J. C. Jones, J. P. Lemon. St. Johns lodge had charge of the services at the grave. (The remainder cannot be read)
